One of my first jobs, back in the late 1970s, was as a chairside dental assistant.

At the time, I thought I might become either a dentist or a dental hygienist. Instead, I found myself getting pulled into marketing projects. Design a referral card. Create appointment reminder cards. Help with an advertisement.

After college, I worked for government agencies and law firms. Even though my official role was as a legal assistant, I somehow became the go-to person whenever a marketing, advertising, or design project appeared.

Then I joined a Fortune 500 company as a personal assistant and regional office manager. Before long, I was managing communications with the advertising agency on a major campaign.

That's when it hit me: I didn't want to sit on the client side of the table. I wanted to be on the agency side.

So I went back to school to study advertising, marketing, and design. From there, I joined one of Seattle's top advertising agencies, where I worked until moving to Montana in the late 1990s.

Since then, I've had the opportunity to work with businesses of all sizes—from dentists and attorneys to national brands and growing companies across a wide range of industries.
